NZ Blindness-Related OrganisationsBlind Sailing New Zealand Inc - Since 1988, sailing opportunities have been offered to blind and vision impaired people in New Zealand through the New Zealand Council for Sailing for the Blind and Vision Impaired. Blind and Low Vision Education Network New Zealand (BLENNZ) - Generally speaking, children need to have a documented eye condition that reduces the child's vision to around 6/18 or less, AND which gets in the way of their learning at school. Blind Sport New Zealand Inc - the National Sporting Organisation for blind sport, Blind Sport New Zealand is recognised by Government and SPARC (Sport and Recreation New Zealand) s the governing body for blind sport. DeafBlind New Zealand Inc - DeafBlind New Zealand arose from the need for a separate Society run by DeafBlind people themselves. The unique disability of deafblindness, affects people all over the world, and this organisation has links with sister organisations internationally. Ngāti Kāpo o Aotearoa Inc - Ngāti Kāpo was founded in 1983 upon the vision of self-determination (Mana Kāpo) and improving the quality of life of kāpo Māori and their whānau. The society in the 21st century is a national Māori health and disability service provider that is driven by and for Māori disabled consumers and their families - kāpo Māori and their whānau. Parents of Vision Impaired Inc -
Known as PVI, this organisation enrols parents who have blind or vision
impaired children. Its mission statement is “as parents, we strive
to achieve the best opportunities for our blind/vision impaired
children”. Retina New Zealand Inc - Retina New Zealand Inc is committed to finding the cause, prevention and treatment of retinal degenerative disorders. Royal NZ Foundation of the Blind - the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind is New Zealand's primary provider of vision-related services to blind, deafblind and vision-impaired people.
