ABC NZ Relationships

The Association of Blind Citizens of New Zealand (ABC NZ or Association) actively engages with a wide range of government, business and community organisations, to help foster increased community understanding and acceptance of blindness and blind people.

We are often described as a consumer organisation because we represent blind consumers.

Key ABC NZ relationships include the following.

The Blind Community

Full membership of ABC NZ is open to anyone eligible for registration with the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind.

Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind

New Zealand's largest provider of services to blind people.

Public advocacy by ABC NZ has facilitated the Foundation shifting its focus from largely providing institutionalised sheltered employment and hostel accommodation for blind people, to providing individualised home-based rehabilitation and training services of today.

Government Departments and Agencies

ABC NZ key relationships with government agencies include: The Office for Disability Issues.

International Organisations

World Blind Union
